Promote Careers in Crane, Rigging, and Specialized Transportation during October

Take advantage of special career recognition days to promote careers in crane, rigging, and specialized transportation. October is a big month for the industry, with Careers in Construction celebrated all month long, and the first Friday (Oct. 2) dedicated to Manufacturing Day. Lift & Move USA took the pledge to support #CICM, a Build Your Future initiative. We suggest industry employers do the same.

October is a great time to show students and educators careers in this industry that relate to construction and manufacturing. Engage with students by being a classroom speaker, which can be done in person or virtually, offering to lead a project-based presentation, or opening your facility up for a tour.

Lift & Move USA is preparing a guide book to help employers understand the CTE community, work-based learning, and how to build industry-education partnerships. The guidebook and related resources will be available beginning in October. If you’d like access to the materials, email Tracy Bennett at tbennett@scranet.org.

Get Connected

Obvious choices for engaging students are high schools or post-secondary schools with career and technical education programs, but don’t rule out elementary and middle schools. Not sure who to contact? For elementary and middle school, start with counselors, administrators, or parent-teacher association groups. For high school, turn to CTE departments or school-to-career counselors or club leaders for programs such as ACE Mentors or SkillsUSA. At the community college or technical school level, reach out to program chairs, department heads, or workforce development or economic development departments.
